"but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease,without fear of harm."

   오직 내 말을 듣는 사람은 안심하며 살겠고, 재앙을 두려워하지 않고 평안히 살 것이다(잠1:33)

                              사도행전 27章16節 부터 시작합니다. 

 

16.As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were hardly able

to make the lifeboat secure.

the lee: 

바람을 피할수 있는곳, 바람이 없는곳.

Ex: The ship took shelter in the lee.

      배는 바람을 피할 수 있는 곳으로 피신했다

 

As we passed to the lee of a small island:

작은 섬의 바람막이 쪽을 지나면서

hardly able to make the lifeboat secure:

구명보트를 간신이 안전하게 고정시켰다.

 

우리가 '가우다'라는 작은 섬의 바람막이 쪽을 지나면서, 구명보트를안전하게 고정

17.When the men had hoisted it aboard, they passed ropes under the ship

itself to hold it together. Fearing that they would run aground on the sandbars

of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and let the ship be driven along.

hoist:

(기 따위를) 내걸다, 올리다,천천히 감아올리다.
hoist sails: 돛을 올리다

sandbars:

조류 때문에 형성된 모래톱.

Ex: The fishermen anchored their boat near the sandbar to catch more fish.

aground:

지상에; 좌초되어.

run aground:

(배가) 암초에 얹히다, 좌초하다.

Ex: The ship ran aground during the storm, and the crew had to wait for high

      tide to refloat it.

had hoisted it aboard:

그것을 배에 올렸다

to hold it together:

그것을 함께 유지하기 위해

they would run aground on the sandbars of Syrtis:

그들은 시르티스의 모래톱에 좌초할 것이다

they lowered the sea anchor:

그들은 해양 닻을 내렸다

 

선원들은 구명정을 갑판 위에다가 끌어올리고 밧줄을 이용하여 선체를 동여매었다.

그리고 그들은 리비아 근해의 모래톱으로 밀려들까두려워서, 바다에 닻을 내리고,

그냥 떠밀려 가고 있었다.

 

18.We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they

began to throw the cargo overboard.

a violent battering:

심한 타격, 격렬한 충격

throw the cargo overboard:

화물을 바다에 던지다

overboard:

배 밖으로, (배에서) 물 속으로.

 

우리는 폭풍에 몹시 시달리고 있었는데, 다음날 선원들은 짐을 바다에 내던졌다

 

19.On the third day, they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own

hands.

the ship's tackle:

사흘째 날에는 자기네들 손으로 배의 장비마저 바다에 버렸다.

 

20.When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm

continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.

raging:

격노한; 거칠어지는, 미친 듯이 날뛰는

all hope of being saved:

구원받을 모든 희망

 

여러 날 동안 해도 별도 보이지 않고, 거센 바람만이 심하게 불었 으므로, 우리

는 살아 남으리라는 희망을 점점 잃었다.
